You seemed to imply that Code Igniter was a glue type framework. I would argue that, by your definition, CI is more full stack like Cake. And while Symfony has lots of bells and whistles, it is glue as it incorporates lots of other third party projects and components.

Well, a good friend of mine who uses CI told me I was bang on with my definition: you don’t have to use ALL of CI in order to use it, and it lets you glue together existing stuff really well. By full-stack I mean you cannot grab individual portions of the framework and use them in isolation. As far as I can tell, you can take bits and pieces of CI and Zend Framework, but the same cannot be said of Symfony and CakePHP.

I like PHP Abstract as much as the next guy but particularly thought that this episode was good, concise and well formed.
Thanks
