p. !>http://www.phpwomen.org/wordpress/wp-content/themes/phpw/images/phpwomen-1-keyline.gif!:http://phpwomen.org Regular listeners of our podcast, PHP Abstract, know that we like to push the envelope and “do something different”. So we are going to do something different now, we are going to attempt our first “live” podcast. (Live in the sense that all of will be alive when we actually record it)

p. “PHPWomen.org recently celebrated it’s first birthday”:http://www.phpwomen.org/wordpress/2007/10/25/phpwomen-quietly-passes-its-1-year-birthday/. To honor the occasion, four of it’s prominent members, Ligaya Turmelle, Elizabeth Naramore, Elizabeth Smith and Sara Golemon have agreed to sit down with me on the phone and talk about PHPWomen.org, it’s goals, how well they feel they are achieving them, and why the #phpwomen chat room has nice wallpaper and a couch in it.

p. Ligaya Turmelle Elizabeth Naramore Elizabeth Smith Sara Golemon

p. Contrary to what people believe when they see the name, “phpwomen.org”:http://www.phpwomen.org is not an exclusionary organization and neither is this podcast. Regardless of gender, all PHP developers are invited call in and listen live.

p. elePHPant To make thing more fun, we will all be hanging out in the irc.freenode.org channel #phpwomen. Join us there while we are podcasting and you can ask questions in the chat room. If the guests would like, they can interrupt my highly scripted banter and answer them. To keep things interesting, if you ask a good question and they answer it on the podcast, I’ll send you one of the new elePHPants!

About Cal Evans

Many moons ago, at the tender age of 14, Cal touched his first computer. (We're using the term "computer" loosely here, it was a TRS-80 Model 1) Since then his life has never been the same. He graduated from TRS-80s to Commodores and eventually to IBM PC's. For the past 10 years Cal has worked with PHP and MySQL on Linux OSX, and when necessary, Windows. He has built on a variety of projects ranging in size from simple web pages to multi-million dollar web applications. When not banging his head on his monitor, attempting a blood sacrifice to get a particular piece of code working, he enjoys building and managing development teams using his widely imitated but never patented management style of "management by wandering around". Cal is currently based in Nashville, TN and is gainfully unemployed as the Chief Marketing Officer of Blue Parabola, LLC. Cal is happily married to wife 1.28, the lovely and talented Kathy. Together they have 2 kids who were both bright enough not to pursue a career in IT. Cal blogs at http://blog.calevans.com and is the founder and host of Day Camp 4 Developers

Keep an eye on the PHP Abstract feed, it will be released in it. If you don’t subscribe to the feed, watch the DevZone homepage, I’ll announce it when it’s released.
