DVD Wallet Covers via PHP and Amazon Web Services

p. I read a lot of blogs every morning. (I mean I read a LOT of blogs every morning) and sometimes I come across cool stuff. Today I found a real gem.

p. “J Wynia”:http://www.wynia.org/wordpress/about-j/ has written a little piece of code and offered to share it with the rest of us. He recently mashed together Amazon’s Web API and a little PHP code. What he got was a service that he uses to print DVD covers that he keeps in DVD wallets. “Here is the complete story”:http://www.wynia.org/wordpress/2006/03/19/dvd-binder-covers-quick-and-dirty-with-amazon-web-services-and-php/ so you can get the scoop straight from him.

p. Some will hold this up as a “Mashup”, an example of where the web is going. Extracting useful information from existing data streams, re-purposing it to create a new value proposition.

p. Some will see this as a real-world example of how PHP can be used to solve practical problems.

p. Me, I just see a guy who had an itch and needed something to scratch it with. To me, that’s what it’s all about.
