John Lim ‘In praise of Zend Core’

p. “John Lim”:http://phplens.com/phpeverywhere, you know the guy responsible for the wonderful “ADODB”:http://adodb.sourceforge.net/ project, posted a quick blurb yesterday on his blog praising Zend Core.

p. I’ve been using ADODB since my second PHP project. It’s a great piece of code and got me through a lot of tough situations. However, John’s note had nothing to do with ADODB, I just felt like shamelessly plugging a project.

p. “John’s blog post”:http://phplens.com/phpeverywhere/?q=node/view/234 did have everything to do with “Zend Core”:http://www.zend.com/products/zend_core. For those not familiar with this project it’s basically PHP precompiled for Oracle or IBM’s i5/OS. It is a cool project and John seems to think so too. Let’s snag a quick quote.

bq. I’d like to point out that one of the greatest services to the PHP community that Zend is providing is the free Zend Core for Oracle and Zend Core for DB2. The latest versions install PHP 5.1.6. The little known secret is that these 2 installers are perfect for MySQL as the mysql and mysqli extensions are included in the release.

p. If I steal much more than that then I’ll have posted the entire thing here. So I’ll leave it to you to visit John’s blog and get the rest. (While you are there, make sure you click on through to ADODB and see what I’m raving about)
