Spindrop - Boosting terms in Zend Search Lucene
Dave Dash, over at spindrop.us, has posted a very short but interesting tutorial on how to add weight to search terms when using Zend_Search_Lucene. If you’ve been following spindrop.us’ Zend_Search_Lucene tutorial then you will want to make sure you spend the 2 minutes to read this installment.
Lucene supports boosting or weighting terms. For example, if I search for members of a web site, and I type in Dash, I want people with the name Dash to take precendence over somebody who has a hobby of running the 50-yard Dash.
The tutorial is short, there’s an appropriate amount of sample code to get you going, but don’t expect Dave to do it all for you. The samples are just enough to show you what you need to do. It’s up to you to integrate the concept into your site.
