I just briefly glanced at the slides and I'll have to give this a listen later when I get some time. I think PHP performance is definitely a topic that is overlooked frequently. Personally I find many performance issues in one's application can be solved by a solid knowledge of using MySQL correctly as well as writing efficient SQL. A great book on the topic is "MySQL Database Design and Tuning" by Schneider...from the MySQL press. I'd recommend that as standard reading for any serious developer using MySQL.
