CIO Magazine Publishes Second PHP Article
You really have to give CIO Magazine props. After the community responded to their recent article, You Used PHP to Write WHAT?! they listened. Now they have published a second article written by Zend’s own John Coggeshall, "PHP’s Enterprise Strengths and Weaknesses, Take 2"
In case you missed the recent tempest in a teacup, here is the story so far. CIO magazine published a series of articles all titled “You used * to write WHAT?!?”. The article series was intended to point out the strengths and weaknesses of each language, as CIO’s Sr. Online Editor, Ester Schindler pointed out. ”...The premise of the article series – which will be continuing with other languages – is that no programming language is appropriate for every use.”
While no one in the PHP community believes PHP is the right tool for every situation, many did object to factual inaccuracies in the original article. Many bloggers responded to the original article including myself, CIO Magazine Trolls and Gets Spanked Hard and Terry Chay, You Used PHP to Troll WHOM?!. (Note: Terry wins for the best title!)
On my blog post, I was honored to have Ester Schindler post a response which started a private conversation between the two of us. During that time, John stepped up to the plate, responding to my railings in the twitterverse and offered to write them a better article showing the strengths and weaknesses of PHP. The outcome of both conversations is that CIO magazine has now published their second PHP article.
I think after reading it you will want to join me in congratulating John on his great article and thanking CIO magazine for a truly balanced look at PHP in the Enterprise.
