Unless you live under a rock or code in Ruby, you know that last week, php|architect rebooted itself. They now have a new look, new options and a concern for the environment not usually seen in the publishing industry.
php|architect is the PHP magazine for serious developers. For the past six years, Marco Tabini and his crew have published the definitive monthly tome on PHP. Authors from around the world regularly contribute articles that teach the rest of us new and improved way to get things done with PHP.
After six years though, they felt it was time for a change. Last week, they showed us the change they came up with and almost universally, everybody liked it. Here are the main points.
- Subscription includes both print and PDF.
- Four color printing throughout
- Lighter weight paper to reduce weight and therefore shipping costs
- New lower price
They go into detail on most of these points in their announcement. For those looking for additional insight, Marco posted an entry on his blog yesterday. He talks more about the WHY whereas the announcement covered the WHAT, including why he feels these changes make sense for the environment.

Apologies to all, I mis-read the original article. I’ve corrected the article above to reflect the fact that the PDF version is now included with the print version. The PDF only subscription has gone away.
Thanks simonharris for the correction.

great opening :)
but too the point. The changes they maked is a step in the good direction. I talked with some developers about the PHP|a magazine before the changes and they all came with the argument "it's a little bit too expensive to subscribe". My opinion about this was that the good articles are worth the money.
After the price changes they haven't a argument at all :).
I did not talked with them after the changes but will recommend the magazine.
Greetings,
Marten
