IBM, PHP, SEO...Can I get another TLA in this subject line?

IBM has a reputation for releasing cool tutorials. I used to read all of Daniel Robbins’ tutorials on Linux and Gentoo and pretend to understand them. (Which I found easier to do when there’s no one around who expected me to explain it to them.)

This week they released the first of a 2 part series by Tyler Anderson on building an SEO tool that you can use to keep track of your or your client’s domains.

The complete description is:

This series documents the creation of an SEO application that will connect to the major search engines (Google, Yahoo! and MSN) via SOAP/REST to obtain the positions of a given list of URLs and keywords. Matching results will be stored in an Apache Derby database for later processing. This series will process the results by attaching a price to bill a client for achieved positions.

The complete article can be found here.

The 12 page tutorial takes about 2 hours to complete. Looking at the pre-requisites, I’m assuming this tutorial needs to have a “Some Assembly Required” sticker clearly affixed somewhere on the front page. Even so, this looks to be an interesting one.
