The book is a tutorial guide to Joomla! 1.5 and was already written and published during the development of Joomla! 1.5. This is the final version and it aims for “web developers, designers, webmasters, content editors and marketing professionals” and is suitable for anyone starting out with Joomla! 1.5, for people who upgrade to Joomla 1.5 and for those who just want a good printed guide/manual at hand.

As anybody using Joomla will know the platform went through some pretty steep changes for the better and the online documentation is a bit unhandy to use. Planning to write a few extensions for site’s I host I was looking for a book that could at least in part be a replacement for this documentation. As I went through the site of Pact publishing My eye fell on this particular book because of the example chapter they show. And indeed now I have the book I’m in no way disappointed.

I’m a self employed web hoster that also develops websites. If possible in Joomla! while writing my own extensions in PHP. I’m not into big business but enjoy live by keeping close contact to my customers and trying to suit there personal wishes. So you will find no real hosting company pages of mine as most customers come through others and I’m in the delightful position to be selective.

My experience is more then 30 years of computing, administrating and programming. Started out in those ol’ CPM days but also did my time on that little odd zx81/timex 80 and later zx spectrum. Then from XT on to AT and modern machines.

I regard myself als fluent PHP, Basic and several shell scriptings. I do windows (sorry) as well as Linux and tasted some BEOS and OS/2. TCP networking has hardly any secrets as I love to play with state full firewalls and (don’t tell anyone) do some P2P, Freenet and Onion too :-)

So bottom line is I’m an all round guy with a lot of broad sided knowledge enabling me to be flexible and quickly deep into specialized stuff if needed. I don’t know everything but I know where to get the knowledge if needed.
