DC-based online political consulting firm seeks talented PHP web developer for Boston technology office.

Blue State Digital is a consulting firm that specializes in creating web strategy and technology for political organizations and candidates. We count some of the largest Democratic and progressive organizations among our clients and our client list is growing rapidly. Many prominent, winning candidates across the country relied on us for their online presence in the 2006 elections.

Blue State Digital is looking to add a highly skilled software developer to our growing Boston technology office. We have developed a large platform of web tools that we deploy for our clients. This person’s responsibilities will include adding to, enhancing, and maintaining various pieces of the platform as well as doing custom development projects for specific clients. The technical skills/experience we are looking for are:

  • at least 3 yrs professional software development.
  • strong skills programming with PHP (ideally OO PHP5) and MySQL in a UNIX environment are required.
  • strong XHTML, CSS, and JavaScript skills are required. DHTML/AJAX/JSON experience a big plus.
  • experience developing components for large scale web applications.
  • strong programming background with experience building scalable, maintainable, and extensible software.
  • good visual design sense and capable of creating highly usable UI.
  • experience designing and writing software in C, C++, Java, or another more traditional language is a big plus.
  • ability to quickly produce high quality work in both deadline and non-deadline situations is paramount.

In addition, we are looking for someone with the following personal characteristics:

  • friendly and in possession of functional social skills.
  • comfortable working an a fun, laid back startup environment, but willing to (very) occasionally dress up when clients come around the office.
  • desire to make a difference in politics and advance the role the internet plays in the political process.
