Today we are going to do something a little different. I was privileged to attend php|works in Atlanta. While there, between tasks, Sean Coats agreed to sit down with me and talk for a bit. Given his level of participation in php|works I was grateful for any time he was able to spare. Come listen as we talk about his work at php|architect, work on the PHP manual and programming in general. This is the first of a couple of interviews I was able to do at php|works.

Many of you will recognize the name Paul Reinheimer as the primary instructor for php|architect’s training classes. Others will recognize him as one of the two hosts of the podcast “PRO::PHP Podcast”. Still others know him as the author of “Professional Web APIs with PHP” from Wrox Press, the only book I’ve ever seen to get such a colorful review from Ed Finkler. If you do know Paul, either in person or on-line, then you know that he always has a smile on his face and he is never too busy to help you with a PHP issue. I had the pleasure of sitting down and talking with this young but rising star in the PHP community last year at php|works. Now, after sitting way too long on the shelf, I’ve finally had enough time to finish this interview and present it to you.

Flash and PHP are becoming a popular pair of technologies. It seems that every time I turn around, I'm seeing new Flash front-ends that are talking to PHP back-ends and doing some very interesting things. One of the most interesting things I've seen though has to be MyKleenexTissue.com. I was given the opportunity to sit down and talk with Andy Lintner, Director of Application Development, Jon Aniano, General Manager, and Jeff Kazmierski, President and Creative Director; all of Active Media Architects, the team behind MyKleenexTissue.com. Along the way we talked about the technology decisions they made, and the process they used for development.

Athlon Sports is tucked away in a non-descript building near downtown Nashville. Inside is a 40 year old company, well respected in their field that has been, not so quietly, moving into the world of on-line games.

Frameworks are everywhere in the PHP community these days. Different frameworks fill different needs and have different personalities behind them. Recently I had the opportunity to talk with Francois Zaninotto and Fabien Potencier, the driving forces behind the symfony framework. Not too long ago, symfony released their 1.0 milestone version. They have also released their extensive documentation in print from Apress, as well as on the web.

This past year at OSCON I interviewed a lot of people, I mean a lot. I’ve still got more to come after this one. The fun part about the whole OSCON interview series was that almost one half of the interviews I did worked at OmniTI. Here now is my interview with Wez Furlong.

Last week, Marco Tabini, publisher of php|architect and all around nice guy, posted the “Call For Papers” for php|tek 2007. The theme this year is PHP::innovate(). Since I couldn’t find my “marketing speak to English” dictionary I decided to call Marco and see if he could translate it for me manually. Click on inside and I’ll share with you what I learned.

Recently the PHP Security Consortium released their latest project phpsecinfo. Phpsecinfo was conceived and written by Ed Finkler who works at CERIAS, the Center for Education and Research in Information Assurance and Security. Intrigued as much by this project, as I was by the fact that Ed wrote me and told me it was time for me to interview him, I called Ed and we talked about the project. Click on inside and read what he had to say.
