p. “TopWebNews.com”:http://www.topwebnews.com gets it’s debut mention on DevZone for a tutorial that they put together on using PEAR::SOAP. The tutorial is titled “Web Services and PHP”:http://www.topwebnews.com/2006/08/16/web-services-and-php/. Other than a few formatting issues with their code, it’s a quick and easy read. Here are the opening paragraphs in case you are already tired of my description.

bq. In this tutorial, I will be demonstrating how to use the SOAP package from PEAR to query Google’s extensive database. This tutorial assumes that you are using PHP 4 or higher and PEAR::SOAP 0.8.1, and requires basic familiarity with PHP (including a little object-oriented programming).

p. The page long tutorial walks you through setting up and calling Google’s spell checker API. The language is simple and non-threatening to those new to the concepts. Really the only thing they gloss over is how to install the pear package. (Yea, I know it’s simple but even simple tasks need to be explained every now and then.
