h3. Zend Appoints Harold Goldberg CEO

p. On January 16, 2007 Zend announced that Harold Goldberg has joined the company as the new CEO. He joins Zend, from BMC Software, a $1.5 billion global provider of enterprise systems and service management solutions, where he was senior vice president of worldwide marketing.

h3. Zend Studio and Eclipse Blog

p. Yossi Leon, product manager for Zend’s development tools has begun writing a blog about his activities with the Zend Studio team and the Eclipse project. Among others, he has posted a great demonstration of Zend Studio 5.5’s new features.

h3. Plat-Forms, a Web Development Platforms Comparison

p. “Plat_Forms” is a competition in which top-class teams, comprised of three programmers, compete to implement the same requirements for a web-based system within 30 hours, each team using a different technology platform (e.g. Java EE, .NET, PHP, Perl, Python, or Ruby on Rails).

p. Its purpose is to provide new insights into the real (rather than purported) pros, cons, and emergent properties of each platform. The evaluation will analyze many aspects of each solution, both external (usability, functionality, reliability, performance, etc.) and internal (structure, understandable, flexibility, etc.).

p. Zend Germany has entered one of the PHP teams in the competition.

h3. Zend Framework Roadmap

p. Zend Framework Preview Release 0.7.0 was released January 18. The features of this preview release includes advanced solutions for internationalization, enabling PHP developers to bring their applications to a global audience using best practices.

p. The next Zend Framework milestone is 0.8.0 in mid-February, featuring solutions for message translations, logging, authentication, mail, and data filtering/validation. The general release of Zend Framework 1.0 is scheduled for the end of Q1 2007.
